Arts and Education

Arts and Education is a major focus of the Peacock Performing Arts Center—it’s represented by the first word in our mission to “Preserve, Promote and Participate.” We endeavor to preserve the arts for future generations by offering quality educational programs to adults, children and youth.




We’re offering a series of 5 intensive acting classes for adults at the Peacock. Taught by David Weber, Adjunct Instructor at YHC, the classes will focus on the basics that will either refine your training if you’re already an actor, or if you’re new to acting, this will give you an excellent foundation! $15 per class per person and all that’s necessary is to call the office 828-389-2787 and give them your name! David Weber, Adjunct Instructor of Theatre, Young Harris College, will be offering a series of five acting classes of scene study (using scripts) focusing on comedy at the Peacock, in Hayesville. He holds an MFA in Acting and Theatre Pedagogy from California State University, Long Beach and a BFA in Performance, University of Illinois at Chicago. His background includes a focus on Shakespeare and Clown Techniques.

The adult class is open to anyone 18 or older and will concentrate on the Stanislavsky System of acting training focusing on changing negative habits and cultivating personal awareness. Tuition is $15/class. No audition necessary, but advance registration is required.

Ms. Robbie’s Performing Arts Camp

This Performing Arts Camp is for boys and girls age 5 through 16. The camp has become a very popular Summer program at The Peacock Performing Arts Center. After training with a professional singer, dancer, and actress, Ms. Robbie Dernehl, the campers provide 2 performances of a 2 hour musical production complete with costumes, sets, sound effects and lighting. They act, sing and dance on stage in a professional operating theater.



Ballroom Dance Classes

Ballroom dance classes taught by Laurel Adams will be offered in the Fall of 2020 for Beginners and Intermediate/Advanced. Beginners classes are on Tuesdays and Intermediate/Advanced on Mondays from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Each class is $15/couple; $8 singles (no partner necessary)

Classes are a 5-week session, pay-as-you-go.

Dress code: smooth soled shoes

Ms. Adams will review in every class what was taught in the previous class; so it is okay to miss a class.

Dances taught are the Waltz, Foxtrot, East Coast Swing, Rumba, Cha-cha and International (not Argentinian) Tango.

Private Lessons;: $20 per couple/per hour.
